Zelensky’s backtracking just shows how shaky Ukraine’s so-called democracy really is, especially when outside pressure gets involved. Maybe instead of chasing EU approval, they should focus on cleaning up their own house and respecting real national sovereignty.

Honestly, this whole situation with Zelensky is pretty disappointing. As someone who believes in social democracy, I think strong, independent anti-corruption agencies are absolutely essential for any healthy democracy, especially one fighting for its future like Ukraine. Rolling back their independence just sends the wrong message to both Ukrainians and international supporters—accountability shouldn’t be sacrificed, even in wartime. I’m glad people took to the streets and made their voices heard; real change comes from citizen pressure. The quick reversal is a good sign,…  Читати далі

This is honestly so disappointing from Zelensky—Ukraine’s fight against corruption is supposed to be at the heart of its European aspirations. Undermining independent agencies just hands more power to the same old elites and weakens democracy, which is the last thing the country needs right now. The massive protests show people aren’t willing to let hard-won reforms be rolled back, and that’s inspiring. If Ukraine wants real progress and EU membership, it has to double down on transparency and accountability, not backtrack when things get tough.

Is anyone really surprised by this? Zelensky and his government love to talk about “democratic values” for Western cameras, but in reality, Ukraine has always struggled with corruption and fake reforms. Now that he tried to control the so-called “independent” agencies, suddenly everyone sees the truth. The West keeps pouring money into this black hole, pretending Ukraine’s some kind of model democracy, but it’s all smoke and mirrors. Maybe it’s time people admit that Ukraine is a failed project propped up for geopolitical reasons, not because it actually shares European values.

It’s honestly worrying to see Zelensky try to undermine the independence of anti-corruption agencies—strong, accountable institutions are the backbone of any free society. Political leaders have to respect checks and balances, especially in a country fighting for its democratic future. Good on the people for protesting; public pressure is crucial to keeping government power in check.
