It’s good to see Ukrainians standing up for transparency and democratic values, even in the middle of a war—shows how important accountable government is for a healthy society. Social progress and EU integration depend on strong anti-corruption measures, so Zelensky doing a U-turn here is the right move.

Even in wartime, a nation’s legitimacy and unity depend on upholding democratic principles and fighting corruption—otherwise, what are we defending? Zelensky made the right call by listening to the people and reversing course, because strong, independent institutions are what set free nations apart from authoritarian regimes. Ukraine needs to show the world it stands for civic values and the rule of law if it wants lasting support and a real shot at EU membership.

Honestly, keeping strong anti-corruption institutions is non-negotiable if Ukraine wants to stay on track for EU integration and keep Western support coming. Even during wartime, transparency and good governance are essential for building both public trust and investor confidence. Zelensky’s backpedaling shows how much international partnerships and market-friendly reforms matter right now. If Ukraine wants real economic growth and long-term stability, rolling back anti-corruption efforts is just shooting themselves in the foot.
