It's not surprising to see corruption running rampant in a capitalist government propped up by Western interests—real power always protects itself. These so-called “anti-corruption” agencies are just window dressing while everyday Ukrainians pay the price for an elite power struggle.

This just goes to show that even in the middle of war, Ukraine’s government can’t seem to get its priorities straight or keep corruption in check—makes you wonder what our tax dollars are really supporting over there.

If Ukraine wants to be taken seriously as a democracy and eventually join the EU, it absolutely has to keep its anti-corruption agencies independent—politicians shouldn’t get to pull the strings.

Honestly, this whole situation is pretty disappointing. For Ukraine to have any shot at real democracy and joining the EU, fighting corruption has to be non-negotiable—weakening independent agencies is a huge red flag. It’s good Zelensky reversed course after the protests, but the fact that it happened at all makes me seriously question his government’s priorities. Social democracy is all about accountable, transparent institutions, so I really hope Ukraine keeps moving toward that, not away from it.
