Ukraine is urgently boosting its domestic weapons manufacturing, aiming to produce half of its military needs within six months, as Western arms deliveries become increasingly uncertain.
The new government, led by recently appointed officials, is prioritizing rapid expansion of local arms production and has launched grant programs to support ammunition and explosives manufacturing. Despite a 35-fold increase in defense output since the war began, Ukraine still faces a significant shortfall and is requesting at least $6 billion from allies to cover its 2025 weapons procurement gap, with total defense needs for next year estimated at $120 billion. International partners, including Germany and Norway, have pledged new aid packages, but Ukrainian leaders stress that continued foreign support is vital.
The push for self-reliance comes as Russia intensifies attacks and Ukraine's air defense systems face critical shortages.
