Ukraine is urgently ramping up its domestic weapons manufacturing, aiming to produce half of its military needs within six months as Western aid faces uncertainty.
The new government, led by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, is seeking at least $6 billion from allies to bridge a 2025 arms procurement gap and estimates a staggering $120 billion will be needed for defense next year. Key priorities include boosting air defense, especially against drone attacks, and increasing ammunition and explosives output through new grant schemes. Allies, including Germany and Norway, have pledged additional support, but Ukrainian leaders stress that international funding and cooperation remain vital.
The push for self-reliance comes as Russia intensifies attacks and Western partners debate the pace and scale of future military aid.
