Honestly, this whole situation is a huge setback for Ukraine’s progress toward a market-oriented, transparent democracy

If Ukraine wants to join the EU and attract serious investment, strong and independent anti-corruption agencies are non-negotiable. Zelensky’s move just sends the wrong message to both international partners and investors who want stability and rule of law. The backlash from civil society and the EU is totally justified—accountability and open institutions are the bedrock of a functioning liberal economy. Hopefully this serves as a wake-up call that weakening checks and balances will only hurt Ukraine’s future prospects.
