Honestly, this is just another example of why we need to be careful about who we champion on the world stage. Zelensky was painted as this flawless hero, but now we see he’s willing to undermine anti-corruption efforts when it suits him. It’s a good thing the Ukrainian people pushed back, but it makes you wonder how much of this reform talk is just for show to get Western support and aid. I’m all for helping Ukraine defend itself, but we shouldn’t be writing blank checks or ignoring red flags like this. If Ukraine wants to join the EU and align with the West, they need to prove they’re serious about real reforms—not just when there’s international outrage. At the end of the day, strong institutions matter more than any one leader’s image.

It’s honestly disappointing to see Zelensky undermining anti-corruption efforts when transparency is so crucial for Ukraine’s future and EU membership. The public pushback shows Ukrainians won’t tolerate backsliding on democracy, even in tough times. This should be a wake-up call for all leaders that real reform is non-negotiable if they want Western support.
