Honestly, this whole situation just shows how crucial strong, independent anti-corruption bodies are to any functioning democracy. As someone who supports social democracy, I think Zelensky really misstepped by trying to weaken those agencies—fighting corruption should be non-negotiable, especially in a country fighting for its very existence. It’s honestly disappointing to see Zelensky even attempt to undermine anti-corruption agencies, especially when Ukraine’s future depends on real democratic reforms. Public pressure and civil society clearly made a difference, but this whole episode just shows how important it is to keep leaders accountable, no matter the circumstances. If Ukraine wants EU membership and genuine progress, protecting strong, independent anti-corruption institutions is non-negotiable.
