In times of war, strong leaders like Zelensky sometimes have to take tough actions for the sake of national unity and security, even if it means pushing back against so-called "independent" agencies and outside interference.

Honestly, this whole situation is pretty disappointing. Ukraine had been making real progress on democratic reforms, and then Zelensky goes and undermines the anti-corruption agencies? That’s exactly the kind of backsliding that makes people lose faith in the system. It’s good to see Ukrainians protesting and holding their leaders accountable—that’s what democracy looks like. At least Zelensky listened and reversed course, but the fact that he tried this in the first place is a huge red flag for anyone who cares about liberal democracy and the rule of law.

This just goes to show you can never really trust these so-called “reformers” once they’re in power. Zelensky came in with all these promises about fighting corruption and standing up for democracy, but the second it gets tough, he tries to pull the rug out from under his own anti-corruption agencies. If Ukraine wants to be taken seriously by the rest of Europe, it needs to clean up its act, not backslide into the same old oligarch-controlled system.
