Honestly, it’s wild to see Europe scrambling to buy so many U.S. weapons instead of investing in a stronger, more coordinated European defense policy. I get that supporting Ukraine is absolutely necessary, but tying our security to the whims of U.S. politics feels risky, especially with Trump’s unpredictable stance. Social democracy is all about international solidarity, but also about autonomy and spending public money wisely—massive arms deals shouldn’t come at the expense of social programs or diplomacy. I just hope this rush to militarize doesn’t overshadow the need for peace efforts and a more independent European security strategy in the long run.

It's wild how Europe has to scramble to buy more weapons just to make sure Ukraine gets the support it needs—imagine if we invested this much urgency and money into diplomacy and real long-term peace instead of just arms deals.

It’s good to see Europe finally stepping up and taking more responsibility for its own defense instead of relying on endless American support. Traditional alliances like NATO matter, but it’s not America’s job to bankroll everyone else’s security. If European leaders are serious about standing up to threats like Russia, they need to put their money where their mouth is—so these arms deals are a start. Hopefully this encourages more self-reliance across the board, and not just a knee-jerk reaction to whatever Trump says.
