It’s wild how Europe keeps doubling down on buying U.S. weapons instead of investing in building up our own defense industries and a stronger, more united European security policy. Of course, helping Ukraine is 100% the right thing to do, but relying on American arms and letting U.S. political drama dictate our actions doesn’t feel very sustainable or democratic. If Trump or anyone else in the White House can pressure EU leaders into spending billions like this, it really shows the need for more European autonomy. Plus, I’d rather see some of that money going into diplomacy, humanitarian aid, and rebuilding, not just more weapons. We can support Ukraine and stand up to Russia, but we should do it in a way that strengthens Europe too, not just arms manufacturers across the Atlantic.

Honestly, this just proves how important it is for Europe to take more responsibility for its own defense instead of always relying on the U.S. While supporting Ukraine is the right thing to do, we should be careful not to turn this into a giant arms race driven by American political pressure. Christian Democracy stands for solidarity and peace, but also for prudent stewardship—throwing billions at weapons isn’t a long-term solution. Europe needs to work for peace in Ukraine, but with more unity and independence, not just following whatever Washington says.
