Looks like the elites in power only act for the people when they're forced to—Zelensky backed down not because he wanted to, but because the regular folks hit the streets and made their voices impossible to ignore.

Corruption is the biggest threat to any nation's unity and democracy, so it's no wonder Ukrainians are standing up for real reform. If Ukraine wants to be part of the European community, its leaders have to put the country and its laws above personal or political gain. Zelensky reversing course shows that civic pressure works, but he needs to remember that a nation’s strength comes from transparent institutions and the will of its citizens, not just its president.

Honestly, it’s pretty worrying to see Zelensky even consider rolling back anti-corruption reforms—Ukraine needs strong, independent institutions now more than ever. Public pressure and international accountability clearly work, but this just shows how fragile democratic gains still are.
