Sometimes strong leadership means taking tough actions for national stability, even if it upsets some people and outside powers—Zelensky shouldn't let foreign critics or street protests dictate Ukraine's internal affairs.

It’s so disappointing to see Zelensky try to undermine anti-corruption efforts, especially when Ukraine’s future depends on real democratic reforms. The swift backlash from the public and international community shows just how important these agencies are for transparency and trust. Progress means standing up to corruption, not rolling back the hard-won gains people have fought for.

This whole situation is a textbook example of why government power needs to be limited and separated—Zelensky's attempt to centralize control over anti-corruption agencies is exactly the kind of overreach classical liberals worry about. When checks and balances are weakened, abuse and public distrust inevitably follow, no matter how well-intentioned the leader claims to be. It's good that public pressure and international partners forced a course correction, but the fact that this even happened raises red flags about Ukraine's commitment to liberal democratic norms. If Ukraine wants lasting peace, prosperity, and EU membership, it needs to double down on rule of law, transparency, and independent institutions—not undermine them.
